2nd Birthday - Very Hungry Caterpillar

For my daughter's 2nd Birthday we did the Very Hungry Caterpillar theme.
We bought a few of the themed items - the best buy was the wee ice cream tubs, which were a perfect size bowl for little hands to hold and fill with their snacks of choice!

The cake was a genius idea - I made two plain sponges, and swirled in some green food colouring before cooking. I cut half of one cake into a head shape and iced with red buttercream icing, and used sweets for the eyes and antennae. The rest of the cakes I cut into wedge shaped slices and simply arranged them in the shape of a caterpillar, and surrounded the cake with different berries and fruits.

This meant that the toddlers could just help themselves to whatever they wanted straight off of the tray - much more convenient! Also, interestingly - the cake disappeared quickly, and the fruit disappeared quickly, but the icing-and-sweetie covered head remained until last!
